Tips to help you prepare for your studio Newborn Session

First off, congratulations! As a newborn photographer and mom of two, I want to ensure that you get the most out of your in-studio newborn session, as this time in your life is so fleeting. I have put together my top tips to help you prepare for your newborn session with Photography with Care.

RELAX – These sessions are very relaxed as you just had a baby and are probably a little sore still! It also allows time for feeding, settling, changing and anything else that may come up with baby.
Feed Your Baby – I recommend feeding your baby just before arriving but please do not stress if your sweet babe doesn’t want a top up, I know babies have their own schedule and that is why we allow ample time for these sessions.

Props – My newborn sessions, are not about posing the baby or including props, however if you have something in mind please let me know. Or if you have a family heirloom that you would like included or a sweet knitted outfit that Aunt Greta made have bring it with you.

Birth Announcement – Have your sign ready whether if it is a sign board, a card or one of the cute wooden announcement boards from Primrose+Pine have it filled out prior to our session so you can focus on snuggling your sweet baby. This 100% isn’t required, I just don’t want you filling it out during our studio time.

Baby’s Outfit – During our session we will have enough time to have a few outfit changes for baby. The Over Company Nodo sets look super adorable when your baby is laying in the bassinet or a Snuggle Me Organic Lounger and save you a lot of time perfecting the perfect swaddle for this session. I would also suggest a plain onesie so we can capture all of the little details of those little feet and chubby little legs.

Parent’s Outfits – Make sure you are comfortable! You can’t go wrong with jeans and a comfortable shirt. I love blues and neutral tones. Avoid shirts with logos as we don’t want to take the attention away from your baby in the photo.

Siblings – If you have other children be sure to have bribery snacks and their favourite toy out for them to play with. I will capture them interacting with their new sibling, the whole family and also grab a few of them solo. They need to be celebrated too as they just got promoted to big brother or sister.

RELAX – I said it again because it is so important. I will help by cracking my best bad jokes, dancing like a fool and singing twinkle twinkle little star to help sooth baby. This is a very special time for you and hopefully having these tips will ensure you get the very best out of your session. You’ve got this momma!
